Her acting journey began with theater, and was later featured in numerous television series and independent and mainstream films. The actress was famous for her role as Miranda Shaw (ABC's Quantico) as well as in BET's massive The Book of Negroes. The series both received reviews, and she also received a number of accolades. In 1995 she debuted as Ariel on the stage on stage in The Tempest. On Broadway, she has appeared as a character in Come and Gone A Winter's Tale Seeking the Genesis and Joe Turner's Come and Gone. Her film career is highlighted through her appearances on Men of Honor The Caveman's Valentine The Express, and The Help. In her television work, she's been recognized for her role in the role of a character who is a regular on ABC's police drama High Incident.
